National Girls & Women in Sports Day

National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) is an annual day of observance held during the first week of February to celebrate women and girls' accomplishments in the sports industry. NGSWD recognizes student-athletes, champion athletes, coaches, administrators, lawmakers, and other hardworking individuals committed to providing equitable access to sports for all girls and women. The Women's Sports Foundation does this work year round and helps organize events each year on NGWSD. An event was held to celebrate in almost every state this year!

Growing up, I participated in all kinds of sports: soccer, karate, basketball, softball, and swimming. I finally realized around the age of 11 I wasn't athletic and sports just weren't for me; nevertheless, I've always enjoyed watching sportsmostly basketball and soccer. In 2023, I finally got first-hand experience working in the sports industry when I worked with the Lexington Sporting Club during their inaugural season. I managed and submitted a spreadsheet to the USL league for broadcasters to announce sponsors during home games.

In addition, I often helped with hospitality activities in the Owners' Suite where I served club owners and VIP ticket holders. I supported other community outreach activities and hospitality events; for instance, I managed a booth at a Back-to-School Night where I was able to use my second language to communicate with native Spanish-speakers. I wore many different hats and I'm excited for what's in store next season. Little did I know the power of networking would lead to such a fun, amazing part-time gig!

An enlightening networking call with another woman in the sports industry inspired me to take the leap and manifest a part-time opportunity. I'm grateful for taking the leap to connect with and reach out to various leaders with the club on LinkedIn. The people I've connected and worked with have been so amazing. I have no serious expectations with this position; I'm simply enjoying the ride. I've been wearing many different hats so far and I'm excited for the rest of the season!

As of November 2023, I'm happy to announce that I accepted a position as the Community Service Lead with The Railbirds, the official Lexington Sporting Club supporters group. In this role, I'm responsible for organizing volunteer opportunities, community outreach events, and fundraisers for fans during the 2024 season. Community involvement is incredibly important to me so I'm very excited to connect with other Lexington Sporting Club fans and soccer enthusiasts by supporting our community.
