Universal Orlando Resort might be known for its thrilling rollercoasters, but as I mentioned in my last post "5 Fun Things To Do Besides Rides," the parks are full of entertainment. Whether you love Harry Potter, or you there for entertainment, I truly believe there's something to do for everyone in the parks. Even if you're an adrenaline junkie, you need a short break from roller coasters every now and then. One of my favorite things to do is watch the incredible shows and performances in the parks.
1. The Horror Makeup Show
Did you know The Horror Makeup Show has been around since Universal Orlando Resort opened in 1990? The Horror Makeup Show is hosted by two Universal team members and features movie clips and interactive demonstrations with props. This is a 30 minute comedy show that offers a fun sneak peek into the movie making process for popular horror movie classics like The Wolf Man.
If you like cheesy jokes and classic horror films, then you'll enjoy this show as much as me. This is my favorite show I've seen so far, and I hope you love it too! You can watch the Horror Makeup Show in the Hollywood section of Universal Studios Florida.
2. The Bourne Stuntacular
With its debut in May 2020, The Bourne Stuntacular is one of the newest shows at Universal Orlando Resort. The fun is in the name with this state of the art show! The Bourne Stuntacular combines film action and stagecraft as the audience follows Jason Bourne who's outrunning other characters determined to bring him in. Similar to the movies, the character on stage is chased across rooftops, rides a motorcycle through busy intersection, and more.
If you're a big fan of the Bourne trilogy like me, or you simply like live action stunts, then I bet you'll enjoy this new show. You can watch the Bourne Stuntacular in the Hollywood section of Universal Studios Florida.
3. The Blues Brothers
Donned in their signature black suits and shades, you can catch The Blues Brothers in action on a stoop that looks straight out of a movie. They are accompanied by a couple of other performers who play the saxophone and provide backup vocals. You can even catch special performances during Christmas time at Universal. Jake and Elwood perform their classic soulful tunes almost everyday in the New York section of Universal Studios Florida.
4. Poseidon's Fury (Closing May 9, 2023)
Poseidon's Fury is a show that is loved by many Universal fans. In this show, an archeologist gives you a tour through the ruins of the ancient Temple of Poseidon. The excursion isn't entirely smooth sailing, so prepare for a battle deep in the ocean between Poseidon and the evil Lord Darkennon. This show is full of special effects, including fireballs, water, and lasers flash so please keep that in mind if you have any sensory sensitivities.
I haven't had a chance to watch Poseidon's Fury, but now that the show is operating again after being temporarily closed for nearly 2 years, I'm excited to watch it on my next trip to Universal. You can watch this show in The Lost Continent section of Islands of Adventure.
*** Please note Poseidon's Fury is permanently closed as of May 9, 2023.
5. Shows in The Wizarding World
From Diagon Alley to Hogsmeade, there are a handful of exciting shows you can watch in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. For example, at Diagon Alley in Universal Studios Florida, you can enjoy performances by Celestina Warbeck and the Banshees! The popular singer and her crew usually perform three jazz songs; during Christmas and the holidays, they'll perform some of her greatest Christmas hits, which you can read about in this article I wrote about celebrating the holidays at Universal.
In Diagon Alley, you can also enjoy reenactments of stories from The Tales of Beedle the Bard. In the final Harry Potter book, Albus Dumbledore leaves a collection of children's' stories to Hermione Granger, which is pivotal to the trio's mission to destroy horcruxes. The Wizarding Academy of Dramatic Arts performs two stories from The Tales of Beedle in the Bard. As recalled in the book and film, they perform "The Tale of Three Brothers" with props and puppetry.
There are two shows you in Hogsmeade in Islands of Adventure. If you love Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, then you'll love the Triwizard Spirit Rally! The incredible students from Durmstrang Institute and the Beauxbatons Academy of Magic put an awesome performance to get hype for the Triwizard Tournament. Another show you can watch in Hogsmeade is the Frog Choir performance; the choir includes one student from each Hogwarts house accompanied by a frog, croaking along to their songs.
