Email Marketing 101

Did you know that there are 4 billion daily email users? That number is expected to keep climbing; in fact, by 2025, HubSpot estimates that there will be 4.6 billion users! If you're not utilizing email marketing already, I strongly urge you to consider adding developing and implementing that marketing strategy. In terms of digital marketing, it's crucial to use social media, but social media marketing isn't the only powerful way you can connect with your audience online. Trust me: email marketing can take your digital marketing to the next level!

Utilizing email newsletters regularly is a powerful marketing strategy because it arrives directly in your clients’ hands via their inbox. It can’t get any better than that! If you're interested in implementing email newsletters into your marketing strategies, keep in mind that it's a different medium. Some aspects of social media marketing might carry over, but it's still an incredibly different ball game with email newsletters! Email marketing will require a different approach and various game strategies.

Like any marketing strategy, email marketing requires diligently research, forethought, and revision. It's important to take time to analyze your metrics, revaluate your goals and plans for this marketing strategy, and implement new strategies in your email marketing. Test new subject lines, different content, and call to actions. Promote your mailing list in collaboration with your other marketing strategies; for example, post about it on social media with links and promote it on your website with a subscribe button or pop up box.

According to HubSpot, 78% of marketers have seen an increase in email engagement over the last 12 months. I can personally attest that email marketing is crucial for a brand or business. When I worked with the Kentucky Interpreter and Translator Association, I launched their email marketing strategies from the ground, developed their email campaigns, and managed their contact list for nearly a year. In 9 months:

  • their open rate increased to 28.1%

  • their click rate increased to 3.1%

What I know about email marketing I learned entirely on my own by developing KITA's strategies. I know first-hand how difficult it can be developing and implement marketing strategies while simultaneously learning things for the first time. Over the years, I've learned to write and design newsletters with tailored content to connect brands with their donors, clients, and other subscribers. I've learned how to manage and grow contact lists—converting followers to clients. Since completing HubSpot Academy's Email Marketing Certification, I've learned even more and I'm eager to implement what I've learned into my own marketing strategies.
