Remember when everyone used to click on YouTube’s Trending tabĀ just to see what the internet was obsessed with that week? Well, as of July 2025, that era is officially over. YouTube has retired its Trending and Trending Now pages, saying goodbye to the one-size-fits-all list of ā€œhotā€ videos and leaning fully into personalized discovery.

Instead of one giant chart, YouTube is giving us genre-based trends—think top music videos, viral podcasts, gaming highlights, and movie trailers. Plus, the Explore tabĀ just got a glow-up, with fresh categories like fashion, tech, and wellness. It’s less ā€œwhat’s trending for everyoneā€ and more ā€œwhat’s trending for you.ā€

Why the change? Simple: the way we watch has changed. Most of us stumble across new videos through Shorts, recommendations, and searchĀ anyway. The old Trending list couldn’t keep up with how fast tastes shift—or the fact that what’s blowing up in New York might mean nothing to someone in Tokyo.

But this isn’t just about viewers. Creators are getting new tools too, like an Inspiration tabĀ that uses AI to suggest video ideas tailored to their audience. YouTube is also testing features like Hype, which lets fans boost up-and-coming creators, and continuing programs like Creators on the Rise. Translation: more chances for fresh voices to break through.

By ditching Trending, YouTube is following in the footsteps of TikTok and Spotify, doubling down on personalized feeds over mass appeal. And honestly? It makes sense. In 2025, nobody wants a generic list—we want videos that feel like they were made just for us.
